SPC’s 3 Cs
Hello, and welcome to our blog! We’re so glad you found us here and hope you’ll leave feeling like you’ve gotten to know SPC Credit Union a little better.
If you’ve been with SPC for any length of time, you’ve likely seen or heard our “3 Cs:” Compassion, Connection, & Community. The 3 Cs outline our core values and direct everything we do, from multi-year planning with our volunteer Board of Directors to daily member services at each of our branches.
One of the biggest ways that we live up to the 3 Cs is through Cares2Share, our employee-led outreach committee. This group is made up of an all-star group of SPC staff who are committed to putting the 3 Cs into practice through in-person volunteer opportunities, internal and external fundraisers, supply drives, “Hometown Heroes” acts of appreciation, and monetary donations.
In 2022, Cares2Share supported 15 local nonprofits across each of the communities we serve (Hartsville, Darlington, Florence, & Chesterfield) through nearly $20,000 in monetary donations, countless volunteer hours, and additional supply donations to the United Way of Hartsville and Bay Road Elementary School. That’s not to mention SPC’s Holiday Wishes program, an arm of Cares2Share that provides financial assistance to employees and members in need of a little extra help during the holiday season.
While the majority of Cares2Share donations are distributed at the close of the calendar year, this operation is a year-round labor of love. Chicken bog fundraisers, 50/50 raffles, holiday bake sales, the annual Witches Run, and “dress down days” are just a few examples of the ongoing efforts that allow the Cares2Share committee to spread the love around our communities through monetary donations. Additionally, quarterly Cares2Share activities include visiting local “Hometown Heroes,” such as healthcare personnel, EMS responders, firefighters, police officers, sheriff’s deputies, and educators. Making a point to visit these heroes at their respective HQs with treats and thank-yous is one small way we’re able to show our gratitude for the commitment these professionals have made to compassion, connection, and community.
When we talk about Cares2Share in action, we’d be remiss not to mention Thanksgiving at the Soup Kitchen—an outreach opportunity that’s become a beloved SPC tradition. This past year, 23 volunteers, made up of SPC staff, board members, & extended family, packed a whopping 114 plates, each filled with a delicious meal of turkey, gravy, dressing, yams, green beans, & biscuits from Mr. B's catering. They also gave out 35 food boxes donated by customers at Food Lion & IGA. While this volunteer opportunity is perhaps one of the most celebrated, Cares2Share committee members and other SPC staff frequently volunteer at the Soup Kitchen throughout the year whenever duty calls and the dinner bell rings!
SPC’s Cares2Share team welcomes the opportunity to support new-to-us programs, efforts, and non-profit groups. If you are a part of or are familiar with a cause that we could consider supporting via Cares2Share, please reach out to our Community Impact Liaison, Brooke Humphries, at brooke.humphries@spccu.org.
