Making History Every Day

In case you missed it, March is Women’s History Month! Many organizations use this month as a reminder to celebrate the female figures in their midst, but at SPC, it’s pretty much our daily protocol!

If you’ve visited or called any of our branches recently, you’ve probably noticed that many of the friendly folks behind the teller lines, on the other end of the phone, and in several of our C-suite positions are female. We’re lucky to live and work in the reality of women’s empowerment every day—and are grateful for our male colleagues who support us as we lead and serve!

But we know it’s not really luck that landed us here, and we don’t take the opportunity and responsibility to serve ALL of our members with COMPASSION. CONNECTION. and COMMUNITY. lightly. It wasn’t so long ago that women didn’t even have access to banking services, much less RUN the banks (or in our case, credit union!).

And while we’re grateful for the significant strides women in America have made since our nation’s inception, it’s no secret that women aren’t the only ones still grappling with a lack of financial knowledge and economic impact. That’s where we come in: We’re people helping people. Period. Did you know that credit unions are not-for-profit organizations? That we’re member-owned, that we don’t have stockholders, and that our members receive money back just for banking with us in the form of dividends?

These unique features of credit unions like SPC only begin to tell the story of how we care for individuals in our communities. In early 2022, we announced an exciting next chapter in our story when SPC was granted certification as a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI). As a CDFI, we’re bringing our vision of Reaching Farther. Working Smarter. to life in our communities by increasing accessibility to services, expanding our portfolio of products, and offering more support to our members than ever before through education and financial assistance.

This chapter of SPC is just beginning, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to continue to serve our members with COMPASSION. CONNECTION. and COMMUNITY.
